| Youth artist Yatika Fields, 19, of Stillwater, Oklahoma, meets with US President Bill Clinton during the Art exibition held during the APEC Summit.Yatika was selected to represent the Unites States at the the Asian Pacific Economic Council (APEC) Young Artists' Exhibition during the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan held November 12-17, 2000. The theme of the 1st APEC Young Artists' Exhibition, "Contemporary Indigenous Arts -Discovering the Roots" was chosen to inspire an artist's perception on how economic progression in his/her economy has evolved from the humble beginnings of its traditional trades into the age of competition in the modern and global market. An important aspect of this theme is that it is a statement, among other things, about the economic roots of each APEC member economy. The 21 selected young artists displayed their paintings and sculptures in the exhibition. The event will provided an opportunity for the artists to meet and interact with the 21 APEC Economic Leaders who will officiate and view the exhibition. More photos
